Installing Loft Insulation Facts about installing Loft Insulation

Benefits of having loft insulation

  • Without Loft insulation, your heat is literally going through the roof wasting your money on energy bills.
  • Having 270mm (10.5") of loft insulation will save you between £180 - £200 per year on energy bills.
  • Keeps your home warmer in Winter and cooler in Summer
  • By insulating your home you will be playing your part in reducing your carbon footprint and the effect of global warming.

You can check the current depth of insulation in your loft by placing a ruler so that it is resting on the top of the plasterboard in the loft area, this will give you the existing depth. Lofts should have the recommended 270mm (10.5") of insulation.

Surveying Process

Prior to installation our fully trained professional Surveyor will conduct a full 'no obligation survey' on your property to be carried out at a convenient time to fit around your busy schedule. The survey usually takes approximately 10 minutes.

As part of the survey, we will need to have clear access to your loft area.
Our Surveyor will determine the current depth of your loft insulation to ascertain whether you require a ‘top up’ or a ‘full loft installation’.

We will note any tanks and pipes that need lagging and any walk boards required to gain access to any tanks.

Some roof pitches are lower than others meaning some or all areas within the loft are awkward to access. Our surveyor will advise the best and most cost effective method to insulate the area.
Our surveyor will provide you with a written quotation valid for 30 days.

Should you wish to proceed with the Loft Insulation, the installation process is complete in 3 easy steps:

  1. We will arrange an installation date when you would like to work to be carried out. Our Surveyor will be able to arrange a date there and then for you
  2. Before the installers can lay the insulation, you will need to make sure the loft area is clear so that the installers can work safely within the area.
  3. The Installers will arrive at your house to carry out the Installation. You only need to sign the Declaration forms – there are no forms to fill in!

Installing Loft Insulation

The insulation is rolled in-between your ceiling joists and then cross laid to bring your insulation up to the current recommended depth of 270mm.

Loft insulation usually takes approximately one hour to install but the time does depend on the size of the house and other factors, such as access.

All of our installers carry dust sheets to ensure that little or no mess is created.

Facts about installing Loft Insulation

At K G Insulation we only use the best products -  Knauf Earth Wool which is approved by the British Board of Agrement (BBA).

Knauf earthwool loft insulation has been proven that it does not shrink and will last the duration of your property unlike other rolled Glass wool Loft insulation which degrades (shrinks) over time.

Our  installation team will ensure that there is no material to block the eaves as they taper the material down towards the eaves to ensure no blockages occur

When loft insulation is installed, there needs to be adequate ventilation within the loft. We will ensure adequate ventilation is contained.
